The Desert Sun just published an article stating that Riverside county was the second fastest growing county in the nation (!) behind Arizona’s Maricopa County (which includes Phoenix). Clark County in Nevada (which includes Las Vegas) was third. The census was taken between July 1, 2004 and July 1, 2005. Here are how the numbers look - are we growing too quickly?

  • Maricopa County added about 137,000 residents within that period.
  • Riverside County added about 77,000 residents within that period.
  • Clark County added about 68,000 residents during the year of 2004 (according to the census).

Riverside County is nearing a total of 2 million residents. We’ve heard the Coachella Valley has a total of around 300,000 full time residents and 600,000 during the “season”. The median home price of $400,000 for Riverside still beats LA County, which is $490,000 and Orange County, which is $617,000. People are moving here quickly from more expensive coastal communities because of the less expensive home prices and the vast space that still exists within Riverside County — especially in the Desert. By 2014, according to this article, Riverside County will have more students than any other county, except Los Angeles County!
