Changes in La Quinta

The town of La Quinta, California was only incorporated in 1982. Before that “La Quinta”, California “was” the La Quinta Resort and Club. The resort, established in 1926, was a “destination” from the very beginning. In the 1990’s, KSL Resorts bought the La Quinta Resort and Club as well as PGA West and owned the properties until 2004 when they were sold to CNL Resorts & Hotels but KSL retained the management of the properties. On February 1, KSL will turn over the management contracts to the Hilton Hotel’s “Waldorf Astoria Collection” of fine resorts.

Although this change will be transparent to the employees and members, it will be a huge benefit to the clubs themselves. Affiliating the “Waldorf Astoria Collection” name to the popular destinations will bring a greater marketing presence to the already successful clubs.

The sale of the management contracts allows KSL to devote more management time and assets to the resorts that they still own.

The local response to the announcement has been very positive from both the employees and the local community. It is yet another step up for La Quinta and another reason to join the 42 people who move here every day.

A change for the Citrus…

The La Quinta Resort and Club is one of the best deals in the Coachella Valley. Membership in the Resort gives you all the amenities of the resort plus 3 great golf courses to play on. The famous “Mountain” course, the Dunes course and the private and subtly very challenging “Citrus” course. While the Mountain and Dunes are served by a clubhouse at the resort, the Citrus is it’s own gated community, just east of the resort of fewer than 600 homes. The Citrus has it’s own private clubhouse and staff and it’s always been know as the La Quinta Resort’s private Citrus Course.

In late November, it was announced that “The Citrus Course” was getting a new name. On January 1st, the Citrus Course became “The Citrus Club at La Quinta Resort” and our club house will get some significant upgrades beginning in June, 2006. These upgrades include relocating the bar from the interior of the clubhouse to the southwest patio area where it will over look the first class practice facility and the gorgeous Santa Rosa Mountains. A new fitness facility will be built on the west side of the clubhouse which will include a “lap” pool and spa plus outdoor areas to sit and enjoy the spectacular views. All this work is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. All the aspects of the old membership remain in affect and a new membership class has been added giving membership availability to all home owners living on club property. On top of all that good news, the membership “cap” has been lowered from 900 to 700 and when the cap has been reached, the membership will have it’s second private course.

This is yet another great deal in the desert…
